Joseph's Super 6th Birthday Party!

For Joseph's 6th birthday, we had a super hero party at our house. We invited some friends from his class, some friends whose parents are in Joey's program, and some American friends that have also moved to St. Andrews for the time being.
Super Joseph!!
All super heroes need appropriate attire so we had masks for everyone to wear at the party and to take with them when they left (plus a few extras for little super siblings at home).
Entertaining 13 kids in such a small space is a little daunting so we had lots of activities to keep everyone occupied. They could make their own super hero cuffs, color or draw super heroes, and, of course, enjoy some snacks.
The snacks might have been one of Joseph's favorite parts of the party. Each snack had a super power it promised to provide, such as laser vision, super speed, etc. I think he was convinced that the cheese was helping to build his muscles (which is true:). I'm not certain there is much documented evidence that cheerios aid in mind reading, though.

Two sweet Super boys ready for the party!

For the first time since his 2nd birthday, I made Joseph's cake. It just seemed like the best budget move for our party and I knew I would enjoy it since I love baking. I avoided any and all fancy icing designs and used the simplest (and cutest) cake I could find. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out (and thankful for the internet with all of its inspiration).
Outside, the kids could participate in Hulk Smash (knocking down cardboard boxes with green dish gloves) and Captain America shield toss (knocking down cans with a frisbee). The boxes were the highlight of the party and the kids loved knocking, kicking, and busting them down.

Soon it was time to gather around the birthday boy and sing Happy Birthday. It was so sweet to see Joseph surrounded by his new friends and taking in the moment of spotlight.

After everyone left, Joseph opened his presents and read his cards from his friends.
We had a wonderful weekend celebrating a special, smart, funny, brave, silly, kind 6 year old. Joseph, we are so happy you were born and love watching you grow!!

This is just what I needed to brighten my day. I loved every special detail, though my favorite was hearing James scream/sing happy birthday. I miss all of you guys and cannot wait to see you soon!
