A few weekends ago, we enjoyed a (chilly) sunny Saturday exploring some places in town. The St. Andrews Castle has been on our list of things to do. The castle is just about a stone's throw away from the cathedral and is also on the cliffs of the North Sea.
When we went to Edinburgh Castle, some friends suggested that we get a Historic Scotland membership. It costs about as much to get the membership as it would have to pay for the four of us to get in, and now we can go to places like St Andrews Castle for free with our membership.
The castle housed the bishops who served at the cathedral before the Reformation. During the Reformation it was the place of some pretty grim events and was under siege for over a year. The castle has an infamous "bottle dungeon" where the worst offenders were imprisoned.
Thankfully, our visit there didn't involve imprisonment or a siege. The weather was great and we had a great time exploring and taking in the view.

the boys enjoying the view of the North Sea
We ran off a little energy afterwards with a leaf fight and tackling Joey.
Afterwards, we headed into town to enjoy the beautiful day. In the center of town is the public library and Holy Trinity Church. The Fishery Museum in Anstruther set up in that square to showcase one of their boats for the afternoon. The sweet workers let the boys get in and give it a try!
In October, Joseph and James had a two week holiday from school for fall break. During the second week, Joseph and his friend Luke participated in a football (soccer:) camp in Cupar (about 25 minutes away). Joseph loved the camp! It really encouraged his love of soccer and was a perfect way to spend the week. He goes to an indoor football practice once a week here. The Scottish are serious about their football (as well as their rugby and field hockey), but Joseph is representing his homeland well!
After his first practice, we realized that all the boys like to wear their favorite jersey to practice. We picked up a few so Joseph can wear a soccer jersey too :)
More posts to come!! Life has been busy but we are having a wonderful time in this beautiful new country. We'll share some pictures of our first Scottish Halloween and a little day trip to the fishing village of Anstruther soon.
