My parents came to Scotland and we were so thrilled to have them!! They got to St. Andrews around 11am on Wednesday and we headed straight to lunch at Mitchell's Deli (after taking James to school). We showed them around town and then to their hotel.
After an early night to stave off jet lag, we spent the next morning showing them around St. Andrews and our life here. That night, we got a babysitter and headed out to the Peat Inn (http://www.thepeatinn.co.uk/dining/index.htm) . It gets rave reviews and our cousin Kathryn said it was her favorite from her own trip to Scotland, so we were excited to enjoy a fine Scottish meal. It did not disappoint. We took a few pictures in the cozy room where you relax and look at the menu before heading in to your seat. The food was delicious and the setting so unique. We felt right at home and even enjoyed a small bit of haggis to start their Scottish adventure!
My parents spent their first few days at the Fairmont and we enjoyed spending some time out there with them. It is just a short drive from town and has a beautiful view of St. Andrews and the North Sea. Since they were out there for just a few days, Joey and I met them for lunch one day at the Clubhouse.
On Friday, Gran and Granddaddy rented a car for the weekend so we could all pile in at one time and explore more of Scotland. The car company graciously picks you up and takes you to the office to get your car and sign all the paperwork. Unfortunately for us, our driver missed her calling as a finalist for the Indy 500. As she flew around the curves of that small Scottish road, we all just prayed that we would make it to Cupar in one piece!! Yikes!
But after surviving that, our first stop was a group trip to watch Joseph at "football" practice.

On our way back to town, we stopped for dinner at the Balgove Steak Barn (http://www.balgove.com/) . It is only open in the summer and this was our first time to have dinner there. It has the perfect atmosphere for a beautiful Scottish evening and was a great place to eat with kids. When the boys got antsy, Joey took them out to see the farm and animals. They could watch the sheep and highland cows (or "highland coos," as native Scots call them) before coming in for dinner.

On Saturday morning, we checked Gran and Granddaddy out of the Fairmont and headed towards our first castle of the trip in Perth, Scone Palace. Pictures weren't allowed inside but we enjoyed taking some around the property.
