Joseph's school was a polling place for the European elections so he had a day off on the Thursday that my parents were in town. Despite the weather forecast (that is reliably unreliable) looking like rain, we headed towards Edinburgh. We took the train. It was the second time for our family and the boys loved it just as much this time. Since the train station is a little outside of St. Andrews, I drove my parents and the boys took the bus, which Joseph and James loved. Between the bus and the train, I think their day was made in the first hour!
After our stop at the Church, we continued walking towards Edinburgh Castle.
We arrived just as they were changing the guards so we got to witness all the pomp and circumstance of the ceremony. Such a treat for us and especially the boys!
Well, the forecast proved to be true and rain soon arrived after we got inside the castle. We ate lunch hoping it would pass but the rain was actually stronger and windier when we got out. We walked around the inside and into a few exhibits before deciding to get out of the freezing cold rain!! Thankfully, we were able to jump in a cab and have a dry ride to our next stop: The National Museum of Scotland. We had a great time there exploring all of the exhibits before taking the train back to St Andrews.
For those from outside of the state of Mississippi, our school (Mississippi State University) celebrates every Friday as Maroon Friday. Fans wear maroon and sometimes take pictures of fun places they are visiting on Maroon Friday. Since we were in St. Andrews, we decided to take a picture after lunch at the Cathedral. The closest I had to maroon was a deep purply/pink top but you get the idea. Joey even passed some other Bulldogs in their maroon as he walked to meet us for lunch. After chatting with them for a little while, it turns out we know some people in common. Small world!!
Saturday was Gran and Granddaddy's last full day in Scotland before getting on their plane on Sunday. Thankfully, it was a beautiful day and we were able to spend most of it outside, fitting in all the things we wanted to see before they left. First, we headed to the St. Andrews Castle.
Afterwards, we went to play the Little Himalayas next to the Old Course. You can play 9 or 18 holes on a small, hilly putting green. Young and old were playing and the boys had a blast playing the course with Joey.
happy passengers
We walked from Waverly Station in Edinburgh to the Royal Mile and stopped at St. Giles Church. We visited last time but decided to go in to look around. You had to pay to take pictures and I probably should have because it was absolutely beautiful.

After the round of golf, the Norman contingent headed to The Seafood Restaurant (http://www.theseafoodrestaurant.com) for lunch. We had hoped to go there for lunch earlier but had trouble getting a table. With our Saturday reservation, we had a beautiful view of a lovely day on the North Sea.

The boys met us after lunch for dessert at Jannettas (http://www.jannettas.co.uk/index.php). We had been looking forward to taking Gran and Grandaddy there and it was the perfect treat after a wonderful day in St. Andrews. We're so glad that Gran and Grandaddy came to see us and got to see a picture of our life here in Scotland!!
