Last day of School and James' Birthday Party!!

After celebrating James and sending our guests home, we got ready for the last day of school!! Our school went until June 27th this year so we were more than a little ready to wrap up the year and welcome summer with open arms.

Joseph's last day was really just a service at the Hope and Martyrs Church downtown where they recognized some of the older students for their accomplishments before they moved up to the next school. After it was over, we all left as a family and walked to Taste to have some celebratory pain du chocolat.

On Saturday, we switched from school gear to party gear. James' favorite thing is still any type of big truck or machine. So, we decided a construction theme party would be the perfect fit.

As soon as the first guest arrived, James and Joseph helped themselves to a plate of food. These boys can put away some groceries!
Machines everywhere!

I've always seen the masking tape racetrack idea on pinterest but never tried it since we've always had an abundance of racetracks and train tracks. I put it up Friday night and the boys played on it all day Saturday as we got ready for the party. It was a hit all weekend!! Definitely a must try for those rainy days or cold months!

We had to include one of James' favorite things: the sandbox

A Scottish Birthday tradition is to play "Pass the Parcel" at parties. We didn't do it at Joseph's party because I didn't feel like adding one more activity. After a few of his Scottish friends asked about it, I realized that all kids look forward to this birthday ritual :) You sit in a circle and pass a "parcel" while the music plays. When the music stops, whoever is holding it gets to unwrap a layer. With each layer of our parcel, a party goer got a bag of "sweeties". The last layer revealed a fun small present for the lucky winner. It's possible that the "sweeties" with each layer might be an American interpretation to insure that everyone gets a prize :)
We had a wonderful day celebrating our sweet James turning 4 and officially kicking off our summer break.
